10 of My Favorite Books Ever (In My Genre)

Hello, everyone!

Today I’m going to be talking about 10 of my favorite books ever, inside of my genre (fantasy). This is going to be super fun, so be sure to stick around!

All right. Let’s jump right into it!

#1: The Lord of the Rings + The Hobbit

I think this one’s obvious. 😉

Yes, I love LotR and The Hobbit. In fact, they’re probably my favorite books ever! The world-building for Middle Earth is insane. Tolkien created two entire elvish languages and created a coherent time line from the creation of Middle Earth to the end before even writing The Hobbit!

The realism in this made up world is amazing and I think that is the main reason these books are such classics, along with the complex story and characters that reflect the real world and the troubles and problems we face in our daily lives. And Sam. Sam alone makes these books the best.

#2: The Chronicles of Narnia

Another obvious one. These books are so wonderful and magical, and the allegories that C. S. Lewis weaves into them are so inspiring and truthful. These books have impacted my life so much, and I’ve read them so many times, I feel like they’re almost a part of me!

#3: Redwall

Redwaaaaaaaall!!!!

These classic, cheerful, and adventurous books, with anthropomorphic animals as the characters, are such fun reads. Rainy day? Make some tea, set a couple pieces of dark chocolate next to you, pick up a Redwall book, and let the afternoon pass. And also, get ready to get really hungry when reading these books. The feasts that Brian Jaques describes sound so good they make my mouth water every time. XD

#4: Ranger’s Apprentice

Holy guacamole. Ranger’s Apprentice.

This series is…well…it’s impossible to explain. The characters are so real! The adventures are so page turning! The fights and world-building is realistic and authentic! If you need to be convinced to read these works of art, I will say three words: Will and Halt. There. You’ve been convinced. Go read them.

#5: The Wingfeather Saga

One of my favorite books series of all time! (I mean, this whole list is series that are my favorites, but…this one gets an extra gold star!) The delightfulness and yet deepness of this series is mind-blowing. And the wonderful world building, (toothy cows and totatoes!) is so wonderful!

#6: The Ilyon Chronicles

Oh my goodness! This series! These books will always be some of my favorites, and I can’t wait for the sixth and final book to be released! The characters and character arcs throughout the entire series is so well planned and executed. The Christian allegories in it are also very well done. Such a good YA series!

#7: The Chronicles of Prydain

What a fun series to read! The characters are hilarious, (especially Gurgi and Fflewddur Fflam) and each story is extremely entertaining and exciting! Definitely a good fantasy series!

#8: The Knights of Arrethtrae

Ah! The powerful allegories Chuck Black weaves into these fantastic, exciting tales of knights and monsters and everything else awesome about fantasy is breathtaking! Each book takes a very deep, complex subject everyone faces in their day to day lives and explains it in an amazing way, and they show how powerful and true Christianity is. I’ve read these books many times, and they are so so good. I highly recommend them.

#9: The Kingdom Series

These are the first of Chuck Black’s books, the series prior to the Knights of Arrethtrae. Though not quite as good (in my humble opinion) as the Knights of Arrethtrae, these allegorical fantasy novels are still amazing reads, and very inspiring.

#10: Percy Jackson and the Olympians

I just read these books not too long ago for the first time. I had heard of Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan literally everywhere, and finally decided to try the series out. And I was not disappointed. These hilarious, entertaining, action-packed, page-turning books will keep you on the edge of your seat all night! The mash of Greek Mythology and Modern Day is very skillfully done, and is super enjoyable to read!

And there you have it! 10 of my favorite books ever inside of my genre. I hope you enjoyed reading my little rants about each series, and I hope you’ll check some of them out (if you haven’t read them all ready).

If you have read them (or some of them), I’d love to chat about them in the comments below!!

Oh, and stay tuned for next week, where I’ll be sharing ten of my favorite books that are outside of my genre!!

Until later,

  2. LOVED this list! You have some awesome choices here (and gave me some more to put on my TBR!)
I know you’ve talked about Ranger’s Apprentice up here before, and thank you for introducing it for me! I’ve been looking for some good literature, and it was because of your posts about it that I’m about to buy my copy of the first book! So thanks for starting me up on a new adventure!

  3. So cool, Caleb! You know, I am not much of a fantasy reader, but these sound interesting. I am going to check them out! However, one of my favorites is “The Chronicles of Narnia” all the way! I have only read “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe,” so I want to read the other books. Did you know that “Redwall” had a television show? My word, it is so good! It makes me want to read the books, which I also hope to possibly read this summer. 😀

  4. Ahh, this is such a great list! The Lord of the Rings are my absolute favorite books ever, and the Wingfeather Saga, Narnia, and Prydain are HIGH on the favorites list, as well! 😀 Chuck Black is also fantastic; my favorite series of his are Knights of Arrethtrae (especially Sir Dalton) and the Wars of the Realm trilogy. 😀
