Poem: Christmas Layers

The stress of this season can quickly creep in

to December, hoping for a perfect day.

The presents and decorating makes the head spin,

But this is unimportant, if I may convey.

~

There are many layers to Christmas, just like a present.

Snow, music, lights, and eggnog are just a few.

Though fun to gaze at, they won’t make you content,

so perhaps peel back some of them to see the truth.

~

The get-togethers, food, and singing

are just one part of the joyful season.

Gifts, lights, bells ringing,

are an outside appearance of the reason.

~

The smiles and waves a stranger gives

when they wouldn’t most of the year,

is not just because the holiday lives

but because of something deeper, it’s clear.

~

Tranquil piano hymns drift into my ears,

Joyful lyrics with a familiar tune,

encouraging all to let go of fears,

Crying, “Eternal joy will be here soon.”

~

Peace wells in my heart, not on account

of the time of year or the celebrated day,

but because of the hope of Jesus and the amount

of love He gave to let us stay

~

in His great presence, dancing in that eternal joy.

Here we are, admiring the tree standing tall,

and exchanging simple gifts, perhaps just a toy,

but remembering the One who gave the greatest gift of all.

Well hello hello! Thanks so much for reading my poem, and I wish you a very Merry Christmas! I hope the day is wonderful, and you are able to relax and just remember the incredible gift it was that Jesus came to live on this earth.

I had a lot of fun crafting and editing this poem. Let me know what you think!

Until next post, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!! See you on the other side, in 2022!! It’s gonna be a great year, I can feel it! 😉
