Poem: Face in the Crowd

Hello, everyone.

This is a poem I wrote a little while ago and took a long time to post it, but here it is.

Just a note, the words are kind of a mix of a rhyming poem and a freeverse. To be honest, it’s written more like song lyrics than a poem.

But anyway, that’s all.

I’m just a face in the crowd

I always will be

just a face in the crowd

no one really knows me

~

just a face in the crowd

just a face in the crowd

~

I see a guy

saying hi to his friends

I see a guy

living life with no dead ends.

~

I see someone I recognize

I wave and they peer at me

and say “Do I know you?”

Then they turn away and forget about me

~

just a face in the crowd

just a face in the crowd

~

I work hard to do something worthwhile

I strive to do something that might matter

But as I work it crumbles before my eyes

just like a broken ladder.

And I know I know I’ll never make an impact.

Do people understand

that nobodies have hearts to?

Does anyone know

that they can hurt to?

~

And if anyone knows

do they really care?

~

Does anyone care?

That I’m more than a face in the crowd?

Does anyone care?

That I’m hurt even though I’m not loud

~

maybe out there

there’s someone who cares

maybe out there

there’s someone who would befriend me, if he dares

maybe out there

there’s someone who would look at the face in the crowd

the face in the crowd

the face in the crowd

~

maybe out there

there’s someone who thought

a face in the crowd

really mattered.
