Three Reasons Why Reading Great Books is Important as a Writer

This post is not going to be a funny post. Well, maybe it is. My point is, it’s not going to be as funny as the bookworm ones. So don’t be sad about that. Okay, moving on…

Reading is IMPORTANT. It’s important for writers as well as important for non-writers. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to talk about how it’s important for non-writers and this is a writing blog so I’m just gonna ignore those people. Sorry.

Why is it important for writers? That is an extremely easy question.

If you wanna write books, how are you gonna know what a good book looks like if you’ve never read one before?

So lesson number 1: Reading is important so you can learn how to write yourself.

Here is lesson number 2: Reading is important because it grows your imagination.

What is a writer without a big imagination? Not even sure if you can be a writer without imagination.

Imagination is extremely important. It’s what gets you started on the story, gets you started on all those beginning questions.

What would happen if my MC did this?

What would happen if he did this?

What would happen if my sidekick betrayed my MC? OOOOOH THAT’S A COOL IDEA!!

You see? It’s what really gets the story going. If you don’t think about ideas (even if you don’t make the sidekick betray the MC) then you won’t be able to figure out anything new and exciting.

So READ THOSE BOOKS! Keep your brain moving and imagination flowing! You’re gonna need it. 😉

And final lesson for this article lesson number 3: Reading is important because it is fun.

Because writer’s need fun things in their lives. Crazy smile Trust me, we have a hard job. And what gets you more boosted to write than a really really really good book that inspires you and makes you feel happy? Not much! 😉

Well there you go! What did you think? Have any other ideas as to why reading is critical for writers? Do you really like reading? What are some of your favorite books?

Also, I just nominated you for the Behind The Blogger Book Tag on my blog. Don’t do it if you don’t want to, just thought I’d nominate you. 😀
