Three guards now were in the main room, talking quietly amongst themselves. One sat down in a comfortable looking chair and picking up a book, began to read.
The other two slowly moved out of the room, toward the kitchen area of the guard rooms. The two men watching looked at each other.
“What do you think?” Stats whispered, so as not to let the guard hear him.
Ilaka shrugged his massive shoulders.
“I don’t know. Can we sneak passed him?”
Stats thought about it for a while, and then nodded.
“Yes. I think we can. All we have to do is get passed him, into the supplies room, grab the map and the rope, and then somehow get out again.”
“How are we gonna’ get out?” Ilaka asked.
Stats waved him off.
“We’ll figure that out when we have to! Come on!”
Ilaka hesitated a moment, but when Stats began to quickly and quietly ease through the door, he sighed ever so slightly and followed.
The two men crept through the door, and then on through the room. They made their way toward a door that said, “Supplies”.
That’s got to be it! Stats thought to himself and motioned silently for Ilaka to follow him. Ilaka had seen the sign on the door as well, and nodded.
The only problem was that the path to the door was right behind the guard’s chair. The guard grunted and turned the page inside the book.
Ilaka and Stats froze, until the man was engrossed in reading again. They continued on, Stats testing every board for a creak lightly, before setting his full wait on it. Ilaka followed right behind him in his footsteps.
Then Stats hit a creaky board, and put his full weight on it.
It squealed, not to loud, but loud enough to shake the guard from his reading. He made a confused sound and half turned in his chair to look around the room, but was to lazy to look around completely, and did not see Stats and Ilaka, right in the middle of the room.
He slowly turned back around, eased into a more comfortable position, and picking up the book again, continued reading.
Then, to Ilaka’s and Stats’ relief, the man began to hum, making a sound cover for the two to walk across the floor boards without being so careful.
They got to the door marked “Supplies” much faster, and they both stopped. Stats lifted a hand, slowly turned the knob on the door, and to their great happiness, the door opened with out the least bit of pressure!
The two entered the room, and then softly, ever so carefully, they shut the door again, right behind them.
